Haptic guidance with fuzzy control in simulation-based surgical training

چکیده
This paper describes a haptic guidance system developed to assist in model-based training of minimally invasive, laparoscopic procedures. The key factor motivating the development of the device called CAST (ComputerAssisted Surgical Trainer) is the need to advance the stateof-the-art in teaching laparoscopy, and ultimately to improve surgical outcomes. In the paper, CAST’s exchangeable task scenario and fuzzy logic controller with reference generator are presented. The system, while currently intended for off-line, laboratory use, has an excellent potential for real-time, assistive functions in the operating room. Author

A Robust Controller with Online Authority Transformation for Dual User Haptic Training System
In this study, a force reflection control structure is developed for the surgery training haptic system. In the surgery training haptic system, the surgical operation is cooperatively performed by a trainer and a trainee. The participation of each surgeon in the operation is established through their own haptic consoles. Although the operation is primarily performed by the trainee, the trainer ...
متن کاملSoft Tissue Modeling Using ANFIS for Training Diagnosis of Breast Cancer in Haptic Simulator
Soft tissue modeling for the creation of a haptic simulator for training medical skills has been the focus of many attempts up to now. In soft tissue modeling the most important parameter considered is its being real-time, as well as its accuracy and sensitivity. In this paper, ANFIS approach is used to present a nonlinear model for soft tissue. The required data for training the neuro-fuzzy mo...
متن کاملTHUMP: an immersive haptic console for surgical simulation and training.
Telerobotic systems are revolutionizing minimally invasive surgery (MIS), giving the surgeon complete control over precise dexterous movements of tiny robotic instruments. Such 'surgery-by-wire' approaches also create unique opportunities for simulation and training, as the surgeon operates at a computer-mediated haptic console. Possible extensions include offline training in simulated environm...
متن کاملSurgical Training and Performance Assessment Using a Motion Tracking System
Laparoscopic surgery is a newly developed surgical technology that can minimize recovery time. However, with this procedure surgeons lose many of the tactile and visual cues that they rely upon in conventional surgery. Current research and commercial products focus on virtual simulation of procedures, generation of haptic feedback for training, and automated control of the laparoscope in the op...
